MUSIC FOR MEMORIES

For years, I've been visiting my mum at her North London care home, guitar in hand, to entertain her and the other residents. As a child, she introduced me to the music of the 50s and 60s she adored, and it brings me immense joy to give it back all these decades later. This year, I started singing at other homes and centres too. I've never felt so fulfilled doing any other work. It really is a joy and a privilege to sing for my elders, especially those with dementia like my mum has. The wonderful old melodies fire up distant memories, bringing smiles and tears to faces of people for whom so much is lost in the mists of time. My songbook covers tunes from the 30s to the 80s, with a focus on 50s & 60s. Your residents will hear songs that were well-known when they were young, including ones that aren't often played today. It's lovely to see people singing along to tunes recalled from their youth. It opens doors into past feelings in a truly magical way. I usually do 1-hour sessions, but often I continue on my own time because we're having so much fun. I have a current DBS check, public liability insurance, and covid jabs. Fancy a bit of musical time travel? Get in touch and I'll bring my guitar. We might just lose track of time. Here are some more examples:
